TLDR;
Amazon is giving advertisers a way to supply information that shapes Alexa for Shopping after a shopper clicks a Sponsored Brands prompt. The resulting conversation will be labelled Sponsored and will disclose that brand-provided material influenced the answer. Branded Conversations launches in the US in January 2027, so enterprise advertisers should prepare governed product claims and measurement now instead of treating it like another display format.
What happened
Amazon Ads announced Branded Conversations at unBoxed on 29 September. The format extends Sponsored Brands prompts, which already open an Alexa for Shopping conversation from a shopping result or product page. Today those answers draw on Amazon signals such as product detail pages, Brand Stores and campaign data. The new format adds a brief supplied by the advertiser.
That brief can explain what makes a brand different, which product suits a particular need and which items work together. Amazon’s example is a skincare routine in which Alexa can use brand input to discuss cleansers for different skin types and suggest complementary products. The conversation can continue across several questions instead of ending with the first sponsored response.
EMARKETER reports that advertisers will be able to edit the brief and review sample Alexa conversations, alongside prompt-level clicks, conversions and return on ad spend. The answer is marked Sponsored and discloses that brand-provided information helped shape it. The US launch is planned for January 2027, so this is an announced format rather than a generally available campaign type.
The launch sits within a wider shift at Amazon Ads. Digiday’s coverage of unBoxed describes more campaign planning and optimisation moving into Amazon’s AI systems, with enterprise buyers retaining some advanced controls. Branded Conversations moves the same shift into the customer-facing answer, where the content of a paid conversation can influence product understanding as well as the next click.
Why it matters
A conventional sponsored listing pays for visibility and then hands persuasion to a product page. Branded Conversations lets the paid experience answer objections, explain differences and assemble a routine while the shopper is still talking to the assistant. That gives brands a stronger role at the exact point where an AI system narrows the consideration set.
It also raises the evidence standard. A vague claim in a banner is easy to recognise as advertising. A detailed answer from a shopping assistant can sound more authoritative, especially after several follow-up questions. Disclosure helps, but enterprise legal and product teams still need to know which claims came from the brand, which came from Amazon data and how conflicts are resolved.
Amazon says nearly 20% of shoppers who interact with an existing Sponsored Brands prompt continue the conversation about that brand. That is Amazon’s own early-testing metric, not an independent conversion benchmark. The more useful point is behavioural: some shoppers are willing to replace page browsing with a dialogue. The brand information supplied to that dialogue becomes a commercial asset and a governance risk.
How your brand can benefit / be affected
Build the conversation brief from approved product evidence, not campaign slogans. Map common customer questions to product attributes, limitations, compatibility, care instructions and complementary items. Give every claim an owner and review date. If a regulated or sensitive statement cannot be defended on a product page, it should not enter an AI answer through an ad brief.
Test for conflict and omission. Ask how Alexa handles two products with overlapping use cases, an out-of-stock recommendation, a changed price or a question the brief does not cover. Amazon’s broader Alexa for Shopping experience already supports comparisons, price history and automated actions, so the sponsored path has to stay accurate as the customer moves towards a purchase.
Measure beyond the first click. Review conversation samples for factual accuracy, disclosure and useful task completion. Join prompt engagement to product views, orders, returns and customer-service contacts. Keep organic Alexa mentions separate from paid Branded Conversations so the media team can judge the campaign without confusing purchased influence with independent product selection.
