Industry News: ChatGPT turns answers into interactive interfaces

Enterprise brands must test how their facts, comparisons and actions are selected and rendered when ChatGPT turns an answer into a custom interface instead of a predictable list of text links.

TLDR;

OpenAI is rolling GPT-6 with Intelligent UI into ChatGPT globally. Answers can now become interactive comparisons, charts, forms and small tools instead of staying as text. For brands, that changes the surface where products and facts are presented. Clear structured information matters more because ChatGPT may choose the layout, controls and actions a customer sees.

What happened

OpenAI announced the rollout on 7 October for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, with Free and Go following from 8 October. Enterprise access depends on workspace admin settings. The release applies to the Chat tab; OpenAI says the models used in ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this rollout.

Intelligent UI lets GPT-6 compose a response from text, visuals and native interactive components. OpenAI's examples include side-by-side comparisons, maps, diagrams, buttons, forms, charts and calculators. A streamable component library and compiler let the interface appear while the model is still generating it, rather than waiting for a finished page.

The release also changes response timing. ChatGPT can start answering while it continues to reason or use tools, then add findings without another prompt. TechCrunch's launch coverage showed examples spanning recipes, trip plans, engineering explanations and savings tools. The interface is chosen by the model, although users can reduce visual output through customisation.

This is a product rollout, not an advertising or ranking announcement. SiliconANGLE reported that ChatGPT decides when a question needs visual or interactive treatment. OpenAI has not published a method for brands to request a particular component, position or presentation, so any visibility effect needs to be observed rather than assumed.

Why it matters

A generated interface can compress a research journey. Instead of sending someone through several links, ChatGPT may assemble the options into a comparison, expose filters and put the next action beside the answer. That can make a well-described product easier to evaluate, but it also gives the platform more control over which attributes become visible.

The weakest data will become more obvious. If price, eligibility, dimensions or availability conflict across pages and feeds, a polished interface may present the wrong value with more confidence and prominence than a paragraph would. Brands need one governed source for each commercial fact and a fast correction path when generated components use stale information.

Measurement may also become less click-centred. A customer could compare options, change assumptions and reach a decision inside ChatGPT before following a source or opening a brand experience. Server logs and referral analytics will still show visits, but they will not explain every exposure or interaction that happened inside an Intelligent UI response.

How your brand can benefit / be affected

Build a test set around decisions customers actually make. Ask ChatGPT to compare products, calculate costs, plan a journey and explain an eligibility rule. Record the fields it selects, the order it uses, the sources it cites and whether an interactive control changes the answer correctly. Repeat the same prompts because generated interfaces may vary.

Prepare content for extraction rather than decoration. Use explicit labels, consistent units, stable product identifiers and short explanations of trade-offs. Keep important conditions in crawlable text and structured data instead of images or scripts alone. The goal is to give the model enough accurate material to build a useful interface without guessing what a field means.

Finally, add interface behaviour to AI visibility reviews. Capture screenshots or exports, track which claims and actions appear, and compare them with the source data available at that time. OpenAI's safety update says the October GPT-6 models replace earlier Chat models while Work and Codex retain previous versions. Test the customer-facing Chat experience directly and avoid carrying conclusions across products that did not receive this release.
